Live Huerta Murcia wary of the agreement signed between the municipality and the Board of Landowners to "save the Huerta" (20/01/2016)

Since the association consider that enough to remember the "modus operandi" developed so far to realize that these two corporations have been largely responsible for the degradation and destruction of the garden of Murcia, so it makes sense to be wary of such agreements made without sufficient transparency and outside associations defending the survival of this historic agricultural area.

Although there have been changes in recent months in the two organizations, which has transcended the agreement signed by both light it does not give much hope.

In fact, it has been reported that, as part of it, from now on will not be mandatory for the Board to request municipal license to "improve the ditches", which will lead to a serious threat to the conservation of these having been this excuse common to pipe much of the traditional irrigation network, with the destruction of the landscape and the consequent huertano heritage.

Living Murcia Huerta has been asking the City Council the urgent review of the General Plan and the protection of historic irrigation channels to prevent its disappearance as places of great importance in the ecosystem of the orchard, and as essential infrastructure for sewage disposal in case torrential rains.

So far both requests have been ignored and not reflected as essential for the safeguarding of Huerta in the Plan of Action presented by the City Council measures.

Murcia Huerta live requested clarification on the new power consisting of the Board of Landowners "improve ditches" unlicensed, and ensures that proper conservation outdoors this heritage in no time at odds with water circulation and service to irrigators because it has been so for over a thousand years.

As an example, our partnership (with the Neighborhood Association of Llano de Brujas) has submitted to the City Council the draft recovery of a stretch of the canal of Raal Viejo in Llano de Brujas, ditch the twelfth century that the Board of Landowners It almost completely intubated and we intend to value, with the improvement in service to irrigators and the recovery of a landscape for the benefit of the citizens, demonstrating that there is an alternative to piping.

A project that in no case should run in isolation, but as part of the overall network recovery irrigated orchard of Murcia as patrimonial and identity value of Murcia.
