The PSOE presented at the next plenary a motion for review of land-use planning (12/01/2016)

Municipal spokesman, Jose Ignacio Gras Group Socialist councilor also accompanied by Enrique Ayuso, held this afternoon a meeting with the dean of the College of Architects of Murcia, Antonio Herrero and María Perez Zulueta, respectively.

During the meeting the Socialist spokesman has announced the presentation for discussion at the next Full Council of Murcia January a motion for review of the General Urban Plan (Plan) of the town.

Gras sees a widening consensus on the need to review the planning policies that have been taking place in recent years.

Indeed, the dean of the College of Architects himself expressed the need to review the plan at the last meeting of the Board of the city of Murcia, "and we have wanted to start their homework and start a round of meetings and contacts with various groups to promote the debate on the model of city we want to build between all. Urbanism is a public service that should not serve the general interest ".

Jose Ignacio Gras recalled that the current plan was adopted fifteen years ago and, from the beginning, did not have the necessary consensus.

"The 2001 Plan is based on a wrong model city, which enhances the speculation and that it stems from the time of the housing bubble. It has created more problems than solutions, has skewed the city, threatening our heritage garden of Murcia, is not suitable to transport infrastructure we have and has had a development that has led to problems of legality as we see in the north, in Joven Futura or Bacons Bridge ".

Amendment and axes in the new PGOU

Indeed, the Socialist Group presented between its amendments to the municipal budget for 2016 last December, the approval of an economic base for starting work on the revision of the General Plan.

"Therefore, consistent with the amendment we get approval, now we want the City to begin the participatory process that will lead to the drafting of a new General Plan."

Finally, José Ignacio Gras has indicated that it is necessary to change the model municipality that is reflected in the current plan.

"The Socialist Party proposes that there are two priorities in the new Plan. On the one hand, a more sustainable and compact city that minimizes movements, save energy and be more friendly to Murcia and Murcia. And, moreover, also more sustainable socially, not ghettos in which to set aside certain groups of slum dwellers "are created.
