Shakespeare and Cervantes: 400 years being prophets also outside their homeland (12/01/2016)

To mark the 400th anniversary of the death of Cervantes and Shakespeare, universally known as the two leading representatives of literature in their respective languages, will take place on 28 and 29 January a symposium at the University of Oxford in which include a total twelve Spanish and British scholars, experts in Shakespeare and Cervantes, in order to analyze and reveal different aspects of the life and work of these writers.

The six experts Cervantes will be British, while the six shakespearistas be Spanish, including two professors from the University of Murcia: Angel Luis Pujante, one of the most famous translators from Shakespeare to the Spanish language, which will open these interventions with Conference "The Link Cervantes-Shakespeare: Some Spanish Observations", and Clara Calvo, who will speak on "Curating Shakespeare".

Among the topics to be covered include the context of the times in which they lived, the impact they had on their respective works, or the similarities and differences in their styles and themes, as well as the interest still waking authors and their works in actuality.

Along with Angel-Luis Pujante and Clara Calvo, will participate in the Barry Ife, Edwin Williamson, Isabel Torres, Jeremy Robbins, Jesus Tronch Jose Ramon Diaz Fernandez, Michael Bell, Salvador Oliva, Trevor J. Dadson and Zenon Luis-Martinez symposium.

The meeting will be held at Exeter College, Oxford University.
