A study led by researchers at the University of Murcia says that climate change will not affect the photovoltaic industry in Europe (21/12/2015)

An investigation led by professors from the Department of Physics at the University of Murcia has concluded that changes in the weather caused by climate change, such as increased cloudiness will not be a serious risk for the development of photovoltaics in Europe.

The study, which also works the Laboratory of Climate Sciences and the Environment of France and which has just been published in the prestigious journal Nature Communications, also he claims that, even in the worst case scenario for the future that is being discussed with the climate change, the production of photovoltaic energy will be affected significantly in Europe.

Researchers article, whose lead author is Sonia Jerez and in turn involved Montávez Juan Pedro Romero and Jose Maria Lopez, achieved these results after analyzing a set of simulations of future climate and the heavy deployment of solar photovoltaic planned in Europe.

Climate change is indicated in the research, it will not affect significantly to the production of photovoltaic energy, either in terms of average production, either in their temporal variability, which is crucial to ensuring stability of supply.

This general conclusion is qualified in the northernmost regions of the continent, where extreme climate change scenarios anticipate a 10% PV end of the century, although it does not have a strong development in these regions.

Unlike solar resource-rich south as Spain, countries where the impact of climate change on the average production would be negligible, increasing the temporal stability of supply, especially in its daily variability.
