Study analyzes the entrepreneurial intentions of Murcia university (17/12/2015)

More than half of students (54%) of the University of Murcia (UMU) aims, when it finishes the race, to be employed in a company, while 15.9% want to find employment in the public sector and only 3.4% want to start their own business.

This fact is one of the main conclusions drawn from GUESSS project (Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Student's Survey), which analyzes the entrepreneurial intentions of students from universities in 34 countries.

In Murcia, the study led by the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland), has been made by the Chair of Entrepreneurs of the University of Murcia, who conducted research among students of this educational institution.

The low percentage of students (3.4%) that is inclined to take upon completing their studies, instead rises to 23.9% after five years after graduation.

After this time, also it increases the percentage of those who declare their intention to work in the Public Administration (15.9% to 25.7%), highlighting the report are students with the best academic records showing more inclination this career option.

Respondents also indicate that the training offered by the University of Murcia in entrepreneurship increased their ability to identify business opportunities and understanding, values ​​and entrepreneurial motivations.

However, only 27.5% of them claimed to have received training in entrepreneurship at the University, compared to 37'6 of students from other universities worldwide.

The project results were presented by Professor Alicia Rubio, in a ceremony held today at the Rector of the University of Murcia, with the presence of the rector, Jose Orihuela;

the Minister of Education and Universities, Maribel Sanchez-Mora;

Transfer the rector, Entrepreneurship and Employment, Francisca Thomas and director of the Institute of Development, Javier Celdrán.

This has highlighted the importance of it to plan strategies venture, while the rector Thomas has referred to the commitment of the University of Murcia to introduce and strengthen the entrepreneurial culture among students.

The rector, José Orihuela, meanwhile, stressed the success of a project that will allow to compare data from universities in other countries; a closing speech to the minister, who has been worth the international nature of the study.
