The City Council and the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain signed a cooperation protocol for the recovery of the site of San Esteban (21/11/2015)

Experience, prestige and recognition that comes with the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain (IPCE) is to add the project to restore the site of San Esteban drives the City Council with the collaboration of the Autonomous Community.

The mayor invited the institution to engage in this plan, as a permanent observer of the process of drafting the Master Plan and the subsequent actions to be defined later.

Coming two agencies signed a protocol setting out specifically the agreement, according to the Mayor and lived institute's director, Alfonso Munoz, at the meeting held in Madrid last days.

The EICP has among its main tasks the research, conservation and restoration of the assets that comprise the Cultural Heritage and has specialists in different disciplines: architects, archaeologists, ethnographers, restorers, physicists, geologists, chemists, biologists, archivists, computer scientists, librarians , archivists and curators, among others.

The institute offers a prestigious service of archeology and restoration of works of art, archaeological and ethnographic heritage, and has a department of counseling intervention projects in cultural goods and conducting technical reports applicants for funding projects 1% cultural.

The institute has developed several action plans in the region, especially in Lorca as a result of the earthquake, there have been emergency works at the Tower of the Spur and the Castle walls, the restoration of the walls next to the Chapel of St. Clemente, emergency works in the Churches of the Convent of Santa María la Real de la Huertas and Our Lady of Carmen.

It has intervened in consolidation projects and restoration of the walls of Aledo and the Cathedral of Santa Maria la Vieja Cartagena.

The EICP is the second institution with Hispania Nostra Association, which is involved in the project of San Esteban accepting the invitation of the Mayor, fulfilling the guidelines of maximum participation and transparency in the process.
