Juan Carlos Izpisua will be named honorary member of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery (17/11/2015)

He is director of the Gene Expression Laboratory at the Salk Institute (USA), and Professor of Developmental Biology UCAM

On Wednesday November 18 at 19:30 pm in the Chamber of Commerce of Murcia, the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery appoint Honorary Academician Dr. Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, research professor and director of the Chair Roger Guillemin Gene Expression Laboratory at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla (San Diego-Californa), and in turn, Professor of Developmental Biology, and Doctor Honoris Causa by the Catholic University of Murcia.

Pedro Guillen, also academician of Honor and professor of Sports Traumatology UCAM will be responsible for delivering the keynote address.

Following the appointment, Izpisua read his inaugural speech that will focus on 'Present and Future of Regenerative Medicine ".

The researcher Juan Carlos Izpisua, born in Hellín in 1960, leads a research promoted by the UCAM, which aims to obtain human organs and tissues in pigs for subsequent transplant to sick people.

Izpisúa has won numerous awards and honors over the years, including those granted by the National Institutes of Health in the United States, President William Clinton Career Award and the Pew Scholar Award.
