The City Council and the UMU available to Murcia over 2,200 computers in 126 classrooms of free access in neighborhoods and districts (12/11/2015)

The SmartAula represents the union of hardware and media UMU and the City, in order to multiply by three the number of users up to 40,000 people a year.

The Mayor, José Ballesta, and the rector of the University of Murcia (UMU), José Orihuela, today signed an agreement SmartAula to improve the training and availability of Internet Murcia through the rooms open (ALAS).

Thus, students of the University of Murcia living in the city can access the software from the municipal educational classrooms and, in turn, any citizen can make use of computers located in municipal centers and the University both.

Coming from Murcia will be available to more than 2,200 computers (1,700 and 500 UMU Hall) and a total of 126 classrooms (UMU 70 and 56 of the Town Hall).

The Mayor and Chancellor have signed this morning an agreement of intent in the presence of the Councillor for Administration Modernisation, Urban Quality and Participation, Jose Guillen, and the Manager of the UMU, Tomas Jimenez, responsible for the areas involved in the project.

"We will improve service, making the most of local resources and by reference to the 'know how' of the UMU" stated José Ballesta, who explained that "we hope to triple the number of users, reaching 40,000 people a year ".

Institutions working together

This agreement also highlights the collaboration between institutions, responding to the demands of citizens to share efforts, development and coordination, providing better results and services and reducing costs.

That is the goal of all public administrations, and the City and the University materialize again, in this case with a collaboration that benefits doubly UMU students which extend classrooms available and can be made to complement their training practices theoretically and for all residents of Murcia, which will have the support and training of university digital-native generation.

Longer hours and more features

Besides a new offering free workshops, whose registration can be done from today, the wings will be open from January during the opening hours of each cultural center.

The agreement also involves improving the performance of ALAS, in a new video surveillance system and an authentication system itself is incorporated to ensure secure access, as well as maintenance and improvement of computer equipment and computer rooms municipal, ensuring preventive examinations, diagnostics and troubleshooting.

Training workshops, an hour and a half, in morning and afternoon (from 9.30 to 12.30 and from 16.30 to 19.30), are: Make the most of Internet, photo retouching, Spreadsheet, Design your own website, maintains and protects your PC, Introduction to Database, Word Processor, Introduction to Computers, Learn to Ride Videos, Presentations, Internet Make the most of (II).

In addition, workshops will be held at the request of the users themselves, they can perform their online proposal if the topic on which they wish to deepen is not included in the list offered.

SmartAula offer is completed with 33 computer courses and ICT, which are held throughout the year, within the own schedule of municipal cultural centers.
