Now Murcia denounces the growing presence of asbestos in illegal dumps districts (09/11/2015)

MURCIA NOW denounces the proliferation of illegal escomberas in the districts of the municipality, with the increasing presence of such dangerous materials such as asbestos.

For this reason, the Civic Platform has made a dozen requests to the Department of Public Works, which is responsible for urgent cleaning of these points and that the necessary measures are in place to not arise again.

Now Murcia also considers urgent that a campaign controlled removal of asbestos in these areas begins.

Councillor Angeles Micol noted that "while in the city center almost garbage collected door to door in the villages are dumps, garbage, furniture and ultra-polluting materials (corrugated iron, car batteries, oil ...) and hazardous ( pruning of palm trees with weevil) ".

The mayor recalled that harmful material such as asbestos is present in the corrugated, and that this, in addition to being landfilled, is increasingly reused by residents of the Garden, "using it, for example, to make their fences properties after removing them from their roofs. "

Micol explained that the plates of corrugated fiber cement or should be handled by qualified personnel for this task, and must be removed following safety standards, "thus do not pose a serious risk to people who are in contact with this material. Also, you can not consent to something as dangerous as asbestos within reach of children and anyone who does not know the risks. "

Meanwhile, other objects and materials "should be removed to eco-points and approved landfills," instead of allowing illegal dumps in gutters, solar and quijeros (outside the ditches), as is currently happening.

Therefore, the councilor urges the City Council and the Department of Public Works, which is assuming the responsibilities of cleaning and waste management, "to take immediate action on the matter, cleaning these areas and providing the means to make these points not revert to landfills. "

In this sense, Micol notes that "while we pay Cespa over 50 million euros a year by the so-called" contract of the century ', the majority of residents in the Garden and the field do not have recycling containers at a close distance , and those that exist are small in size and few in number. "

The councilor stressed that the problem of landfills "is one of the great examples of unfairness which involves the payment of IBI in districts at the same price as a home to Gran Vía, while it is clear that the services are received different ".

Micol also notes that in recent days the PP is announcing an Action Plan for the Huerta "but is unable to do something as basic as keeping with minimum cleaning and sanitation conditions these areas of the municipality".

Now Michal explains that Murcia has received "many complaints from residents of villages because of the danger, the smell and inconvenience to traffic involving illegal dumps", particularly in Puebla de Soto, La Nora, Nonduermas, San Ginés, Aljucer, Espinardo , Javalía Viejo, Arboleja, the Albatalía and pool-Holy Angel.

The dump Nora also is in a BIC zone (in the aqueduct of the wheel), "so the problem comes to affect our historical and cultural heritage".
