Now Murcia proposes the creation of a municipal plan to eradicate slums traditional (25/10/2015)

NOW MURCIA up for discussion at the next plenary creating a municipal plan to eradicate slums in the traditional town of Murcia.

The motion of the Civic Platform is part of one of its fundamental, rescue shafts citizen and seeks to address a situation that affects more than 200 people.

The motion raise the urgent creation of a commission to address homelessness in all its dimensions, beginning its work with the design of a plan, within a maximum period of one month, to end the traditional slums in the city.

The project should propose timelines and steps to achieve such eradication.

Now Murcia Councilman Luis Bermejo stresses that throughout the process of developing the plan "should take into account the principles of active citizenship, gender, cultural and ethnic diversity, ensuring full social inclusion of the families affected and avoiding ghettoization and urban and social segregation. "

The problem of slums in the city is long: many of the affected families have spent more than 15 years registered in the Register of Claimants of Social Housing of the City of Murcia, and take years to contact Social Services no response to their demands.

Habit Association this year has denounced the existence of over 70 families suffering the historic slums (inherited from generation to generation) and "in July 2013," recalls Bermejo, "the Autonomous Region organized the day 'Comprehensive Proposal for eradication of shanty towns in Murcia ', which recognized the existence of more than 50 hiperprecarios housing systems, in which 237 people lived, of which 53% were younger. "

It's slums, demolition, cars ..., of which 94.8% have no adequate equipment, 88% has structural deficiencies, and only 33% have potable water.

50% of these housing systems is located in environments that do not have the basic equipment, and almost 70% suffer overcrowding.

The mayor stressed that the tools developed to date to end this situation (2009-2012 Housing Plan, the current State Plan for Development of Rental Housing, on rehabilitation in Buildings and Urban Regeneracio'ny Renovacio'n; and the Technical Commission for the Eradication of Shanty Towns) have proved ineffective, so creating a plan from the municipality is required.

"Not realizing the right to housing," said Bermejo, "leads to the violation of other rights such as the right to life and to physical and moral integrity, health protection, education and work. In addition, psychological problems and the risk of disease are evident dissatisfaction with the needs that precede those rights. In this emergency situation is urgent creation of a municipal plan.
