The use of the hormone melatonin improves acceleration of bone formation, according to the conclusions of the doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Murcia by Tareq Abdal Latef, with which has obtained excellent cum laude .
The findings indicate that the process of bone formation is better with the use of this hormone when the natural product known by apigenin is used.
The thesis is conclusively stating that the application of melatonin, alone or combined with other substances, enhances osseointegration.
He adds that after application of melatonin or apigenin was found that there was a significant decrease in the percentage of immature bone.
To carry out this research, Tareq Abdal Latef experienced nine Beagle dogs from the animal house of the University of Murcia, with approximate weight of between 16 and 18 kilos and aged between 14 and 16 months.
The dissertation was directed by Carlos Pérez-Albacete and Maria Piedad Ramirez, of the University of Murcia, José Luis Calvo, the dental clinic of the Hospital Morales Meseguer.
