Murcia, national capital of the bicycle (20/10/2015)

Murcia becomes national capital this week in bicycle thanks to the celebration of the days' Bicycles, Cities and People, organized by the municipality and the Network of Cities for the Bicycle.

So, on Thursday and Friday representatives of different Spanish municipalities participate in various presentations related to communication, employment around the bicycle and public bicycle systems in the country.

Murcia to reach representatives of Corunna, Barcelona, ​​Madrid, Zaragoza, Pamplona, ​​Castellón, Palma, Ciudad Real, Oviedo, El Prat de Llobregat, Alovera, Calpe, Alcobendas, Yebes, Cambrils, Fuenlabrada, Corella, La Rinconada and Castrillon, between others.

On Thursday Bike Barometer, which aims to understand and follow the evolution of opinion, habits and use that Spaniards make of the bicycle and the needs and demands with regard to this is presented.

In the afternoon session, at 17:30, it will analyze in detail the Barometer a technical level, while at 18.30 the debate on 'Communication in the world of cycling' which will involve Isabel Ramis be held (bike around Madrid), Pedro Bravo (Biciosos, and diario.es), Pablo Leon (El País) and Rafa Vidiella (Ciclosfera).

On Friday 23 the day will begin at 9 am with the conference 'The bicycle as a generator of employment' in which participating Carlos Nunez of the Manufacturers Association of Spain and Bikes, Bike Shop The Bike and the company Vicma, manufacturers Murcia and local courier company EcoMensajeros bicycle.

At 10:30 will be the turn of 'Four views on the public bicycle in Spain' with presentations by representatives of BiciMAD (Madrid), Bicing (Barcelona), BiZi (Zaragoza) and MUyBICI (Murcia).

The open day will close at 12.30, time that starts the celebration of the General Assembly of the Network of Cities for the Bicycle, where the new city will be elected President, and the composition of the new Board.

The Spanish Network of Cities for the Bicycle is an association of local authorities aimed at generating a dynamic between the Spanish cities in order to facilitate, and develop safer movement of cyclists, particularly in urban areas .

It was created in 2009 during the celebration of the Second Conference of Public Bicycle in Seville, at that time were already more than 30 municipalities that want to adhere.

Currently there are nearly 70 members of the organization, representing more than 150 Spanish cities.

Murcia holds the presidency of the network since 2011.

The objectives of the Network are:

-To Promote initiatives to make the shift cycling safer.

-intensify Promote cycling and realize their potential.

-Increase Infrastructure for cycling.

Defend the potential of the bicycle as a quiet, clean, affordable and sustainable vehicle to public opinion.

-To Promote the use of bicycles as an alternative tool of mobility to the car and the bike on short trips.
