The Municipal Observatory of the Bicycle creates two working committees to improve infrastructure and safety for cyclists (18/10/2015)

The Councillor for Traffic and Public Safety participated in this week's meeting of the Municipal Observatory of the Bicycle in which different issues have dealt with this means of transport and their users.

Thus, in the meeting, besides giving its approval to the regulations of the observatory, they have formed two working committees, which will meet soon to discuss various issues related to the bicycle.

One group will study how to improve infrastructure, security and mobility of cyclists, while the other will focus on citizen participation.

These working committees will be formed by members of the Municipal Observatory of the Bicycle.

He also spoke of the Assembly of the Spanish Network of Cities for the bike to be held in Murcia on 22 and 23 October.

Moreover, the meeting agreed to prioritize work on the Map of Road Safety, which will begin next November, and seeks to establish measures to ensure the safety of cyclists in 27 areas of the city where there is high concentration of mishaps.

The ten points of the town where you need to work to improve road safety are:

- Avenida Juan Carlos I: most bicycle accidents was against motor vehicles so the vertical signs warning vehicles will intensify access the avenue or to abandon one of the perpendicular streets intersecting points in which accidents occur

- Don Juan de Borbon Avenue: vertical and horizontal signs will also intensify at crossings between the bike path and the perpendicular streets, thus improving the safety of the rider.

- Avenida Miguel de Cervantes: In certain sections of the avenue there are parking in battery which vehicles must back out with little visibility, which may result in dangerous situations against both cyclists and other vehicles that pass through the avenue.

It is remarkable that in accidents consisting vehicles have always been involved motor vehicles.

The solution, according to the study, is to project a segregated traffic or reduce speed of vehicles in addition to studying the possibility of modifying existing parking bike path.

- Avenida Primero de Mayo - Ronda Levante: This area has several lanes in each direction of traffic, high traffic intensity, high-speed vehicles and roundabouts so a segregated bike lane will be screened.

- Walk Lieutenant Flomesta, Ronda de Garay and Mayor Jorge Palacios: Supports traffic intensive supports, has several lanes.

The execution of a segregated cycle lane road traffic by itself Butte Segura river or through the gardens of the avenue is also planned

- Avenida Pio Baroja: It's an avenue that does not support traffic intensity so high but agree not signalized intersections and traffic lights and the presence of parking in battery.

The possibility of eliminating one of the lanes of motor vehicles for the implementation of a segregated bike lane, because the existing sidewalks not allow the inclusion of a bike path because of its narrow width will be studied.

- Tower Romo Street: Supports a very high traffic intensity to the large number of regular buses with stops added.

With few geometric dimensions of the street can not propose or even segregated bike lane on the sidewalk, which are very narrow, so the only viable option is to find an alternative route for cyclists can be safer.

- Calle Industria: It is a street with high traffic intensity and to give access to the railway station of El Carmen, there is great movement for her large number of private vehicles in addition to buses and taxis.

It is convenient to segregate a bike lane on the sidewalk.

- Road to El Palmar: there is high traffic intensity, high-speed vehicles, large numbers of heavy vehicles, several lanes in each direction of movement ...

With no space to include a bike path segregad alternatives are proposing measures to slow traffic and alternative routes.

- Road Sewer: Same as above po0r typology which is planned to create alternative routes and measures to reduce the speed of vehicles.

The study also includes performances in 17 districts routes:

- Road B-3 / Calle Juan Carlos I / Reina Sofia (Guadalupe)

- RM-303 / Mota left river Segura (El Raal)
