The Mayor, José Ballesta, today claimed the role of the university as an essential part of society.
Speaking this afternoon at the closing of the Forum University and Society "The social value of the university," Ballesta wondered if perhaps the thousands of workers of this institution, its students, researchers and professors are not part of society, "although often they want to oppose."
The University is an "area of freedom and autonomy" and, in his opinion, "has a great responsibility in the management of knowledge, largely because this is where lies", he noted.
Together with the Mayor, they have intervened in the closing, organized within the centenary of the UMU, President of the Autonomous Community, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, Secretary of State for Education, Marcial Marín, President of CRUE Universities, Manuel Lopez and the Rector of the University of Murcia, José Orihuela.
