Murcia takes the first step towards the city's 2020 (28/09/2015)

The Mayor, José Ballesta, who chaired the first Board of the City, urges the representatives of society Murcia to "bring his vision to build the great city we all want."

Ballesta has warned that "we have much to do, much to improve and plenty of room to innovate, to build the Murcia we want for future generations."

Participation is open to all citizens, which individually may present their ideas through a channel that will be launched on the website of the City www.murcia.es.

Murcia has launched today the process of citizen participation most important of those have been developed so far, which should culminate in the development of the Strategy of City "Murcia 2020".

For this, the Mayor, José Ballesta, has convened and chaired the first Board of the City, they belong to the representatives of Murcia society: business, trade unions, professional associations, universities, economic organizations, festive, cultural and social .

Spokesmen, in short, of all the groups that are called to hold citizen participation in municipal life.

The mayor urged them to contribute their suggestions, proposals or initiatives, together, design the strategic planning of the city.

For this, he has encouraged Council members to "share his vision to build the great city we all want and that future generations enjoy a Murcia with a higher quality of life."

The call of the Social Council, which was held in the Plenary Hall as the nerve center that runs on municipal politics, responds to the firm commitment of local government to base its management citizen participation.

In this sense, the Mayor has transmitted to the members of the council his "personal commitment to this new model of the city is not decided by the council, but all Murcia".

"There can be no more exciting work," said Ballesta, who also warned that "we have much to do, much to improve and plenty of room to innovate.

But time is short because opportunities do not wait, we have to be able to use them to the 2020 Murcia offer a better quality of life yet. "

This is to determine, with the collaboration of all, what major infrastructures are necessary to change the model city, what actions will recover the historical and cultural heritage and to strengthen the Segura River as the backbone of the municipality, and which projects should be developed for a more friendly city for people.

To make this possible, the Social Council will have a key role, and Murcia, individually and directly, may participate in the process through the City website - www.murcia.es - where a space will be enabled for each person who wishes to translate their proposals.

Also it planned personal surveys in all areas of the municipality to know the opinion of citizens on the present and future of the city.

Regarding the work of the Social Council at today's meeting has presented a document, with the collaboration of the University of Murcia, about the current situation of the municipality.

This text will be the basis for, on him, present initiatives.

In order to channel the proposals have set up six working groups:

- Employment and economic promotion: promotion of the productive sector, attracting investment, creating jobs and promoting entrepreneurship.

- Citizen service and modernization of the administration: citizen participation, governance, transparency, evaluation of public services and access to information.

- Social welfare, quality of life and sustainability: sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, optimizing the delivery of social services, improving the quality of life of citizens and the urban environment.

- Smartcities: smart and sustainable management of public services, implementation and revitalization of the information society.

- Infrastructure and spatial planning: structuring of the municipality, and capital availability.

- Tourism, culture, heritage and trade: the city as a cultural and heritage assets, tourism development and promotion and outreach to commercial space.

After obtaining the results of each of the working groups, the Social Council will prepare a document with the conclusions, which will join the City Strategy 'Murcia 2020'.
