Researchers at the University of Murcia generate less aggressive dyes hair (08/09/2015)

The group Carbohydrate Chemistry, Polymers and Additives Industrial University of Murcia has developed, commissioned by the company Tahe Cosmetics, new hair coloring products in much less aggressive conditions.

High amounts of hydrogen peroxide in basic medium for generating color by oxidation in the present dyes are very aggressive hair.

However, this research group, led by Professor Pedro Antonio Garcia Ruiz, won amid neutral tints of the same intensity of color, they need the same time to effect that current and having fourteen times less water hydrogen.

"Although the use of enzymes (tyrosinase and peroxidase, mainly) in the development of more natural and soft tints is not new, yes it has been the use of immobilized enzymes more stable, low-cost products so far used to have a high price, "explains Pedro Antonio Garcia, director of the project.

Thus, the products developed, covering the full range of colors possible and have already been tested on customers hairdressers are kinder to the hair, easy to implement and similar to the current cost, which is a great benefit for those who often hair dye.

Among other improvements, the new tempt can be used with solid oxidizers, also developed in the project, in total substitution of hydrogen peroxide.

In addition, researchers have designed a system for bleaching hair that does not use direct hydrogen peroxide, but only solid alternative oxidants, among other advances.

Also, they obtained microencapsulated lyophilized solid alternative to hydrogen oxidizing water stains, with excellent results, and have created a procedure for changing hair colors based on microencapsulated some colored components.

The research is funded by the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI).
