The UCAM investigates a new method for the analysis of opinion in the press (13/08/2015)

The teachers of the School of Communication, doctors and Celia Enrique Arroyas Bern, belonging to the research group 'Communication, policy and image' of the UCAM, have published a new book, entitled "The journalistic persuasion" in which they propose a new method for analyzing opinion articles in the press from a rhetorical approach.

Arroyas Enrique, who teaches a course on opinion journalism at the Catholic University, along with Professor Berna has systematized the method have been developed in the classrooms of the educational institution.

"The opinion journalism in Spain, especially the spine, has a very high level both its ideological plurality, and the variety of styles and literary quality. In the book, to explain the different persuasive resources, we have chosen examples of some of what we consider as the best columnists of national and regional press, "says Arroyas.

Placing the opinion journalism as a key element of the social debate, researchers have developed a method of analysis that focuses on the use and importance of rhetoric in this genre.

Professor Arroyas alert on existing trends;

leading states, reduction of plurality in the pages of each half, as if newspapers had forgotten that encouraging debate requires that avoids ideological uniformity of its employees and that have obtained firms that offer views different in the same

Newspaper and make it look like something necessary that the opinion pages of the newspaper's editorial itself is discussed. "

The authors also note that "what we see today in Spain is excessive polarization in the media, as if each one were more interested in convincing his opinion from its ideological trenches, instead of remaining open to discussion."

Notably, as both teachers, this method can be applied to other genres.

In fact, the research group 'Communication, policy and image' already used for other jobs as scientists or political articles.
