The Old Bridge is located over the River Segura in Murcia city, in the place of confluence of the main routes of the medieval city.

Since its construction in the eighteenth century, this infrastructure facilitated the development of the district of San Benito and the expansion of the city, forming what became the Carmen district.

After the flood of 1701 that destroyed the old bridge Alcázar, in 1718 a new stone building the teacher Toribio Martinez de la Vega, who designed a bridge of two arches with a strong central breakwater, seated on the dam was commissioned.

After several delays in the work, in 1740 the image of the Virgin of hazards so it is also known as 'Puente de los Peligros' was placed.

The play ended a few years later under the direction of Jaime Bort.

Bort also added the shrines on the stems, in which the images of San Miguel and San Rafael, made by Joaquín Laguna settled.

These temples disappeared with the additions made in the nineteenth century to widen the sidewalks by a metal structure.
