The Civil Guard in the region of Murcia has developed since last May, the operation 'WILDERNESS' research framed devices Service Protection of Nature (SEPRONA) of the Guardia Civil directed to the protection of natural areas, which has resulted in the allocation of two people on suspicion of crime on the planning.

The investigation began when the Civil Guard found a construction site in the place The Colonel, Altaona Sierra, situated in the hamlet of Murcia San José de la Vega.

The investigation continued to determine the extent of involvement of the natural protected habitat for several species of rare birds, characterized by their rarity, and other common concluding that these human activities, such as housing construction, interference can affect and impact on nesting , settlements species and proper maintenance of their populations.

The defendants and the proceedings have been brought before the Court of Instruction number 4 of Murcia.

SPAs and Natura 2000

Murcia to bird life, and in order to preserve it, the Special Protection Areas (SPAs) which are an integral part of the Natura 2000 network, which provides for the protection of certain areas based on two regulations declared European, the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive.

This second fulfills the mandate to protect the birds of Europe, whether sedentary or migratory, and applied to birds, their nests, eggs and habitats.

The Civil Guard, in compliance with the aforementioned regulations, ensures the protection of large areas listed in the Region of Murcia as SPAs, places that constitute the ideal habitat of the most endangered species and of trying mitigate attacks that threaten their natural existence .
