The Mayor announces a plan for the protection and enhancement of the Huerta to make it tourist hub (14/07/2015)

The City Council prepares an inventory of the heritage and the opening of an information center in the Contraparada.

Ballesta says the plan will be implemented with the participation of all groups that deal with Huerta, which is "essential model of the town you want to implement for Murcia" part.

The development of a comprehensive inventory of cultural, historical and artistic heritage of the Garden and the creation of an interpretation center in the Contraparada are two immediate actions that will undertake the Municipal Government within the plan enhancement of the Huerta the use and enjoyment of Murcia and tourism.

This was announced today the mayor, José Ballesta, who has revealed that these are two key steps for developing an ambitious recovery and conservation of the natural environment that is part of the identity of the municipality.

And it will be open to the participation of all persons and entities that deal with the Garden and are linked to them, including the Board of Landowners, huertanos, universities, etc.

Ballesta has made these statements this morning on the visit he made to the Contraparada, one of the most unique areas of the Garden and at the same time most visited Murcia, especially hikers, cyclists, etc.

The Mayor has announced on several occasions that "over the next four years we do care Huerta, recovery and promotion, one of the strategic priorities of the policy of the City Council" with the intention of promoting it for future tourism, education, wealth and employment generation.

The first step will be, immediately, the approval of the complete inventory of its cultural, historical and artistic heritage, which will serve as the basis for drafting a plan for protection and conservation.

This is to value and preserve the uniqueness of the tower-houses, the canals, reservoirs, water wheels and mills, "some of them in a not visual beauty, but ethnographic, incalculable," noted Ballesta.

"Talk of Huerta's talk about our roots, our culture, our history and our tradition," he added, and is a unique and singular heritage that distinguishes Murcia from other cities, "we must take to place it as one of the pillars on which to settle tourism in our town. "

On the other hand, the Mayor announced the City Council project to have Contraparada in building an interpretation center of the Huerta de Murcia, which will have two uses: as an educational and tourist reference.

To do this, they will be worked out in the coming months the topics, aimed to value the origin of the irrigation system of the Huerta, the landscape, biodiversity, architectural features of the buildings of the Huerta, etc.

Until these studies are completed, the goal is to be launched in September and Environmental Information Point.
