Tourism is committed to consolidating the Visitor Center Monteagudo as the backbone of the historical and cultural attractions of Murcia (08/07/2015)

The opening of the Visitor Center-San Cayetano Monteagudo two years ago allowed substantially increase the cultural offer which is the attraction of the municipality.

With him, Murcia recovered an important part of their heritage and took advantage of the opportunity to value all claims of tourist attraction in the future.

Now the City Council is committed because tourism is one of the main economic engines of the municipality, generating jobs, investment and wealth.

For this it is essential that the services provided are the best in quality, performance and image, since their contribution will be decisive for both promotion and for promoting and increasing influx of tourists and visitors.

In this context, the Governing Board today approved the start of the procedure for recruiting management activities in this visitor center, with a maximum budget of 50,600 euros per year.

The ultimate goal is to turn this facility backbone and starting point of an environment of special historical, artistic and cultural interest of Murcia, which is why the organization of a tour promotion through guided tours and information arises, as well as updating and content development, planning activities and events and boosting tourism.

The Visitor Center, which covers an area of ​​over 3,000 square meters, provides support to expose the pieces that have resulted from the various archaeological excavations, present the history of the valley and orchards of Murcia, palaces and walled enclosures and housing the characteristics of this type of cultural activities centers.

It offers the public a first contact with the history of the city and its various historical episodes.

The building is built around the Plaza de la Ermita de San Cayetano, which embraces putting in value, and allowing the views of the Castle and the Vega de Murcia.

Built through collaboration between the City Council and the Autonomous Community, it has five rooms that provide insight into the origin of the first settlements in the vicinity of Monteagudo, through panels, information, texts and audiovisual showcases reproductions of the pieces found in the excavations in the area.

The rooms are devoted to the Chalcolithic period (Copper Age, 4400 years ago), Argárica (3700 years ago), Iberian (2250 years ago), Romano (1950 years ago) and Arabic (850 years ago).

In these villages, burial customs, agricultural, and urban rituals of different cultures will be contemplated.
