Statement of the Department of Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Murcia (22/05/2015)

Given recent developments resulting from the inevitable collision in public hospitals in the region of the trainees of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Murcia and the Catholic University of Murcia, Department of Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology University of Murcia believes that it is fair to convey the unanimous position of their teachers.

The Department wants to make it clear that deeply respects the freedom of those who choose to start businesses or create institutions in the private sphere.

However, greatly it regrets that, in this case, the public and private spheres intermingle without apparent continuity.

The Department does not consider it appropriate to make available to private universities scarce public resources for Yes even if there considerations;

and even less when they are laughable.

The collision has already occurred in some areas and hospitals will be even more inevitable in those disciplines in which health services and the case of Pediatrics and obstetrics are already loss-quality practices to give students at the University Murcia.

Students of the Faculty of Medicine of the University have proven to be the best in the region and deserve to have at its disposal the resources they deserve;

and they should not be deceived.

Nor they can deceive them about their professional expectations: the number of places of Internal Medical Resident in 2015 covered only half the demand.

The trend is that demand continues to increase while supply remains stable.

Make available to the public resources Catholic University justification of the need to train doctors is therefore unsustainable.

Admitting each academic year 300 students between the two medical schools is an investment that Murcia taxpayers can not afford, and less in times of crisis.

In the private sector, everyone can make the investment that seems more convenient, although this is ruinous;

but in the public sphere is at stake money and the welfare of all.

Therefore, the Department of Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology Pediatrics advocates that the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Murcia make the best use of public hospitals.

Also it calls for the Catholic University, who preserves commercial matters, established to make appropriate agreements with hospitals and private hospitals to be good for mutual benefit.

And all under the abundantly clear that the number of medical students is oversized prism.

A considerable reduction of the number of both the University of Murcia and the Catholic University;

and a concert of this university hospitals and health centers in the same private sector would lead to a logical, sustainable and fair to the citizens of our region situation.

Also it leads to excellent training of our students of Medicine, which is the main raison d'etre of this department and the entire Faculty of Medicine, University of Murcia.
