Chair Innocent III (21/05/2015)

The bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, Jose Manuel Lorca Planes, closed the First Annual Conference of Law and Theology

The Catholic University of Murcia held this morning, through its International Chair Innocent III, the First Annual Conference of Law and Theology.

Under the motto 'Law and Crisis.

Canonical consequences of the changing times', specialists in the field have analyzed the role of law and theology throughout history, particularly the Catholic Church, and the problems that happened this, and serve basis for the study of current crisis.

"There have been many situations that have shaken the Church, and it has an answer. It happened in the time of Innocent III, Luther, in the Tridentine reform, and now with the Pope Francisco have seen that even so many of the proposals he does, already existed in Trento, in the V Lateran Council summoned by Innocent III ", he affirmed Professor of History of Law and co-director of the International Chair Innocent III, Javier Belda.

The former member of the special Synod on the family, and president of the Institute 'Utriusque Juris' of the Pontifical Lateran University, Manuel Arroba, highlighted the law as an aid to progress.

The president of the UCAM, José Luis Mendoza opened the ceremony accompanied by the secretary general of the Pontifical Lateran University, Monsignor Roberto De Odorico.

Mendoza has highlighted the importance of research, including in the field of law.

Chair Innocent III

During the development of the conference they were presented the activities planned by the Chair.

The first activity will be holding at the end of the year, an International Congress on the figure of Innocent III, and making already more than 200 teachers interested history of canon law worldwide.

This chair, recently created, has been developed jointly with the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome, through Utriusque Juris Institute, and aims to strengthen research initiatives in the area of ​​the History of Law, Common Law and Canon Law.
