Cervantes specialists gathered at the congress commemorating the second part of Don Quixote are given (18/05/2015)

The Chamber of Arts at the University of Murcia has welcomed today the inauguration of the International Congress "Don Quixote in Ricote: Cervantes, Islam and the Moors", held today and tomorrow at the Festival of Three Cultures and Murcia centennial activities of the educational institution.

Academic co-director of the event, Professor at the University of Murcia José Pablo Beneito, stressed at the opening ceremony that this is the first activity of this magnitude commemorating the fourth centenary of the publication of the second part of Don Quixote de la Mancha, work in which Cervantes, he added, "realizes the incessant cultural mix that existed in the Iberian Peninsula."

During the conference, in which different specialists will approach the presence and significance of Moorish and Islamic references in Cervantes' work, it is scheduled parallel by the filmmaker and academic co-director of the game, Juan Manuel Chumilla filmic activities.

Chumilla, which has been defined as a passionate Quixote, has announced that his next project, with Rafael Álvarez "El Brujo", will turn on the linkage between the Arab world and the masterpiece of literature in Spanish.

In the presentation it has intervened Luce López-Baralt, a professor of literature at the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras, who underlined that the conference is a meeting between his university and Murcia, as well as a tribute to the international school moriscología Hispanists formed between the city of San Juan.

Finally, the rector, Jose Orihuela, has referred to the revitalization in the cultural field is assuming the centennial celebration and welcomed by the organizers of an event that puts the people of Ricote in the "center of cultural studies ".

The conference is organized by the Center for Intercultural Studies al-Riquiti, Wheels Visual Ethnography Institute and the University of Murcia.
