A doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Murcia by Lorena Redondo Rentero malnutrition studied patients who had at the time of his admission to the "Reina Sofia" hospital during the year under review.
The findings of the study, which has been rated as outstanding cum laude, notes that, of the 310 patients studied, 33.2 percent met the criteria for malnutrition.
The sample considered for the realization of the doctoral thesis consisted of people aged between 65 and 95 years, with an average of 80.4 years, who were treated at the hospital.
The most prevalent chronic diseases were diabetes mellitus -44.2 per cent, -25.2 chronic renal disease and dementia cent -10.6 per cent.
The findings also indicate that associated with the presence of moderate to severe patients showed that at the time of admission malnutrition factors were female gender, age over 80 years and dementia.
The dissertation was directed by Carles Iniesta Navalón and Carmen Sánchez Alvarez Reina Sofia hospital, and Juan José Gascón Cánovas, University of Murcia.
