The City Council is leading this plan, in which 8 countries, which aims to reduce by 20% the energy consumption of 550 public buildings, 6 of them of Murcia participate.

The Energy Global Award is considered one of the most prestigious environmental awards worldwide founded more than a decade by the Austrian Wolfgang Neumann.

The objective of Energy Globe is to increase global attention on sustainable environmental solutions that can be implemented anywhere and motivate people to mobilize in this sector.

The project submitted by the city of Murcia, Smartspaces - saving energy in European public buildings using ICT, is funded by the European Commission and supervised by the program to support the policy of information technology and communications (IPC -ict), which highlights the need to reduce 20% of energy consumption and CO2 emissions in the public sector through the use of ICT.

In Smartspaces they involved 26 partners in 11 pilot sites and in 8 countries (UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Turkey and Serbia), which collect data from smart meters on energy use per hour from 550 buildings .

Annually, this translates to 40 million bits of data from the consumption of electricity, natural gas, oil and renewable resources.

Emissions reductions and energy savings and financial

The City of Murcia, who leads this project aims to reduce by 20% the power consumption in 6 emblematic municipal buildings, which are those that consume more electricity in the city: the Town Hall, Square of Spain;

Annex to the City Hall building;

the building complex Local Police, Fire and Civil Protection Polygon Infante Don Juan Manuel.

The project, completed in 2014, has achieved its initial targets for energy saving 574MWh / year, a reduction in emissions of 270 tons of CO2 / year and a reduction in electricity bills 90,000 € / year.

The Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change has coordinated the implementation of a series of easy to use tools for public employees who make energy data into information and simple graphics to interpret and, therefore, help users reduce their consumption of energy.

All this with the support of an appropriate training and awareness campaigns managed from ALEM.

The results in the reduction of energy consumption in recent years obtained leave no doubt, surpassing in some buildings up to 20% energy savings, all through appropriate technology tools and training.

International acknowledgments
