The City Council increased resources for people and needy families (06/05/2015)

In the years of crisis they have increased social and economic aid to those most in need so that no one is excluded.

Murcia became one of the Spanish municipalities that provide assistance to people with fewer resources.

The Mayor, Miguel Angel House, has presented a large aid package this morning the extensive catalog of aid that the City of Murcia has articulated to protect Murcia with fewer resources, pensioners, large families and the disabled.

The ceremony was also attended by the Councillor for Social Welfare, Maruja Pelegrin, and Councilwoman Equality Policy and Development Cooperation, Alicia Barquero.

- More than 2,400 elderly, q ue elderly living alone, are addressed through support services and meals on wheels, remote assistance and respite care.

- 3,877 families served with EUR 2.6 million earmarked for social emergency aid.

- 506 families received aid amounting to 544,000 euros to pay the rent.

- 586 families receive assistance for school meals for an amount of 223,000 euros.

- Jesus forsaken: 16,425 and 32,850 contracted foodservice and dinner nights, for a total amount of 466,000 euros.

- The Social Fund provides an allocation of 110 liters per capita per day free of charge.

Since its inception in 2012 a budget for needy families has handled 3,000 requests amounting to 700,000 euros.

- More than 5,400 pensioners and large families benefit from reclaimed water rates.

- 2,779 pensioners and low-income families have a zero quota in the garbage fee.

Less tax

Since 2003, large families, the disabled and pensioners benefit from substantial reductions -of up to 90% - or even total exemption.

Savings in the pockets of taxpayers produced in payments for housing, vehicles, water consumption, use public transportation or sports facilities or the fee for garbage collection.

Another constant in municipal management in recent years has been the support and help families with fewer resources, which has resulted in a reduction of various taxes, including property tax.

The total amount of the bonus shares of IBI Urbana in 2015 amounted to 1,370,896.20 euros, and, in turn, exempt receipts for a total of 3,918,420.84 euros.

In total there are more than 5.2 million euros in bonuses and exemptions.

Next to IBI, they are also very numerous measures to support families and businesses and maintenance of existing:

1. Support for families and pensioners

- Up to 90% bonus to large families in the IBI.- Bonus 95% equity when it comes to housing habitual.- Bonus up to 90% in deportivas.- facilities 75% bonus to pensioners and retirees in sports facilities .- 25 and 20% bonus to Youth Card users and under 15, respectivamente.- zero fee water rate for families with incomes below SMI.- bonuses up to 100% in city buses and tram pensionistas.- bonuses for families and students through the use of public transport.

2. Support for disabled

- Exemption from Vehículos.- 75% bonus on Bonus deportivas.- facilities ICIO 50% of homes in conditioning.

Support for pensioners and low-income families

Since it was set up last February 7, more than 6,279 have obtained Murcia card allowing them to use public transport in the city: Tram Murcia, Murcia and Latbus Transport.

So, 874 cards have been issued to retirees;

787 of numerous families of special category;

755 of numerous families of general category;

215 new students tricolor bond and the remaining 3,648 for general use.

Thanks to the new Murcia Bono, there have been 6,500 transfers between different operators, more than double the lines produced from the same operator.

This bonus is in addition to 100 Bonus (pensioners and retirees with pension below SMI) and Bono Special Large Families (with five or more children or four of which one has a disability), free use of the three concessions.

In total, up to 13,300 pensioners benefit from discounts, with 7,000 large families.

The amount of total aid amounts to 3,813,124 euros.

Against gender violence

The Department of Equality Policy and Development Cooperation also promotes the EMAVI service, a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to women in situations of domestic violence in the municipality.

It has two shelters and a floor protected whose purpose is to provide shelter, protection and specialized for women and their children who need homes out of their usual treatment.

During 2014, 299 women have been treated, with them, 135 old cases (45.15%) and 164 new cases (54.85%), and with all 2,138 the total number of interventions.

General information Municipality

1. 74 Centers for Women: 59 districts and 15 neighborhoods with over 14,000 members.

2. 76 Senior Centers: -64 integrate in the municipal districts and 12 barrios and bring together the social and cultural life of older people and their 32,000 members are responding to their needs and improve their quality of life.

3. Creating the Mobile Emergency Service and Social Care, which has come to public resources through ignorance or modesty did not go to the Department of Social Services.

4. Twelve centers reconciling work and family life, for children 0-3 years old and extracurricular activities and centers.

5. Tax credits support to families on public transport, the property tax, sports facilities and water consumption.

6. The disabled are exempt from Vehicle Tax and benefit from reductions in the use of sports facilities.

7. New social programs aimed at the elderly and disabled, among them the support program of weekends to families with dependent persons and home meal deliveries.

8. Day Care Centers of the municipality in Barriomar, Beniaján and Head of Torres.9.

Constitution of the Municipal Monitoring Commission on Gender Violence also opened a second shelter.
