The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has just published the first Atlas and Red Book of Aquatic Coleoptera mainland Spain, the project has been coordinated by researchers from the Department of Ecology and Hydrology at the University of Murcia, according to the agency News SINC.
The volume, which also helped the Museum of Natural Sciences (CSIC) and the Institute of Evolutionary Biology of Barcelona (CSIC-UPF), gathers information from 510 species of eleven families of existing water beetles in Spain, which will compile in a database of over 60,000 records.
The Atlas, which is a major milestone for the knowledge of these insects will help to identify endangered species in wetlands, which in turn contribute to the conservation of ecosystems.
