The City can improve accessibility on a journey from the station of El Carmen to Bethlehem clinic (13/03/2015)

The Department of Infrastructure and Urban Quality directed Ana Martínez Vidal has developed a Municipal Accessibility Plan, which aims to provide a technical document accessibility analysis in the city and be able to detect the main deficiencies, propose solutions and prioritize performance.

Within this plan have been identified four main routes, with route 1 which will begin running shortly by the special importance of its travel.

This first tour, in which the railway station of El Carmen are, the Carmelite church, the Old Bridge, tax office, Fuensanta Square, Plaza Circular, Morales Meseguer Hospital, Building Abenarabi and the sanatorium of Our Lady of Bethlehem Murcia will turn the first municipality in the region that adapts its streets to new accessibility laws.

Within this pathway have been observed various deficiencies, among which fords who disobey the rules fully or partially, sidewalk sections that do not meet the width of passage or pavements in poor condition that generate small ridges, which can be a added problem for the physical, psychological and / or sensory disabilities, who are the primary beneficiaries of this initiative.

The work necessary to achieve the implementation of an accessible route shall consist of the total or partial demolition of the fords who violate the rules, remodeling of sidewalks in the sections that do not respect the rules of clear width, removal of street furniture that is bad located, road marking crosswalks, installation of traffic lights and audible warning in the widening of sidewalks, among others, tried to remain at ground level access and possible access with ease both on public roads and major buildings of interest.

The City and try to remove architectural barriers in the city with this initiative whose specification was approved by the Governing Board and will have a maximum price of 370,000 euros and a term of five months for completion of the works.
