Students with intellectual disabilities belonging to Capacitas Program of the Catholic University of Murcia, are participating in a research developed by the university itself, and aims to improve and enhance, through a program of physical activity and predeportiva, values ​​like commitment, responsibility, friendship, equality, honesty and fair play.
The program is developed through fifteen sessions of one hour each.
In the first of which an initial assessment is performed to determine the level of moral competence of students.
According to notes from the own research group, the importance of this first phase is that it serves to know the starting point of the students, and to make changes considered necessary for the proper implementation of the project.
Also, in the last session will be re-make an evaluation, summative, to check for possible changes produced.
Sport and health
Once the program has begun and lasts for 12 months completed, the researchers expect to see reflected an improvement in the development of moral reasoning of students.
In addition, another aspect that highlights the project is to enable students to perform physical activity as such, one of the fields that fewer working with disabled young people.
"With them more often work skills that sports practice," said lead researcher Cristina De Francisco Palacios.
Extrapolation associations
Another noteworthy aspects of this research is that once completed and analyzed the results, we can extrapolate the initiative to associations working with this audience.
Painted María del Mar, director of the Chair Montoro German Socio Inclusion for People with Intellectual Disabilities, from where the Training Course for Social and Labor Inclusion of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (Capacitas) added that this initiative also lets give know this Program "in which not only teach academic knowledge, but also work to develop the person."
