The University of Murcia hosts morning the local phase of the Mathematical Olympiad for secondary students (15/01/2015)

The University of Murcia organizes tomorrow, Friday, day 16, the local phase of the Spanish Mathematical Olympiad (OME), aimed at high school students in the region.

Testing will begin at 10:00 am, will be held at the Faculty of Mathematics, Campus Espinardo, in morning and afternoon.

Winners of these tests and those performed at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, the three students who will represent the Region of Murcia in the final stage of the Olympiad to be held in Badajoz from 19 to 22 March.

Organized by the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society, the OME is conducted since 1964 following the model of the International Olympiad.

These Olympics are held worldwide and are aimed detection and training of young talents in mathematics.

As evidence of its role in promoting scientific vocations, include for example that two of the winners of the Fields Medal at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Madrid in 2006, Terence Tao and Grigori Perelman, won his first prize the International Mathematical Olympiad as teenagers.
