VI Meeting of Pharmacists of Murcia on Multidisciplinary patient monitoring with RCV (28/11/2014)

The vice president of the Spanish Society of Community Pharmacy Region has stressed the importance of controlling this asymptomatic disease

Cardiovascular Risk and Hypertension should be addressed from a multidisciplinary point of view of health.

This is one of the ideas that have been repeated during the celebration of the Sixth Meeting of Pharmacists of Murcia on Multidisciplinary patient monitoring with RCV, which began this morning on the campus of the Catholic University of Murcia, and is framed in Murcianas XXI Conference on hypertension and cardiovascular risk.

The president of the College of Pharmacists of Murcia, Prudencio Rosique, noted the importance of the pharmacist in the control of certain diseases.

"The pharmacy is the nearest health facility the patient has and always will find a professional ready to serve."

In this regard it is noteworthy presentation IMPACTHA Program, an initiative of approach to patients with hypertension from community pharmacy, with the aim of improving their control.

The vice president of the Spanish Society of Community Pharmacy (SEFAC) of the Region of Murcia, Francisco Javier Zamora Square, said that about 50 percent of patients with hypertension do not take proper medication.

"There is no proper control, so there are more risks, more income and more premature deaths".

On the factors involved in this poor control of hypertension are those unaware they have it "because it is an asymptomatic disease, so it is not given adequate importance";

and that due to the high number of medications they take, "they forget the stress pill, for just that absence of symptoms."

In addition, Piazza recalled that cases of patients who are admitted with low control of this disease are given, and after discharge "stop new medication", which highlight the need to be informed society also from the pharmacies.

Food & RCV

It has also been discussed during the meeting on nutrition, functional foods, omega 3 or interactions between food and drugs.

In this regard, vocal Food College of Pharmacists of Murcia, Pilar Zaragoza, said that the pharmacist must make health education of the citizen.

"Today not only limited to dispense drugs, but tries to prevent diseases, detect them early, including cardiovascular risk pathologies, teaching healthy eating habits", and added that from the College itself are promoting, pharmacies, one information campaign on eating habits in people with certain diseases, whether it is diabetes, and celiac, cholesterol, or hypertension, obesity.
