The Social Council of the UMU is a committee of experts in human resources to improve the employability of their students (30/10/2014)

He highlighted the superb training of students of the University of Murcia but the need to strengthen other transversal skills

He offered to establish a program for teachers stay in their companies and the need to ensure the dominance of English in after school

The Board of Trustees of the University of Murcia yesterday the first of more than 50 actions included in the Action Plan, adopted last Thursday whose main axis better employability of the students of the University of Murcia.

The President of the Council, Javier Ruano, Vice Chancellor and Transfer, Entrepreneurship and Employment, Frances Thomas, met with leading experts in human resource companies in the region in order to assess whether the students of the University of Murcia acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for professional success and reported that this committee will meet regularly.

The meeting was attended by the heads of human resources Hero, El Pozo, PLASBEL Plastics, Food Juver, Repsol, and Verdimed Garrigues and others are expected to join in intensive companies hiring students at the University in future meetings.

The workbench specifically analyzed four fundamental aspects of employment: preparing students for the selection process, general training, competency profile and the adequacy of previous labor practices.

Experts put value on the work of the Centre for Guidance and Information Employment -COIE- University and highlighted his superb performance in the signing of agreements and as a body to channel the job because they believe that this practical training essential for employability and claim that the practices are the best selection process.

However, understand that it would be good boost this body with additional functions such as the design of professional profiles or monitoring during the selection process as constituting a genuine career department.

HR experts believe that this unit career, should have offices or "hot spots" in each of the faculties, that capture the human resource needs of the companies and permanently Eastern students, facilitating it a more agile, direct and personal communication between the student and the employer.

Another proposal of the working group aims to enhance mutual understanding between universities and businesses to what is proposed is implement a program stay professors companies in the region to see first hand their characteristics and offered to sign agreements to give effect to this initiative.

At the meeting the technical training of the students was also analyzed, meaning that the knowledge acquired in college are excellent in general but it is necessary to develop other skills even so extracurricular as teamwork, oral expression, initiative, versatility or leadership ability.

Experts understand that a key element in the acquisition of these skills is participating in international mobility programs, therefore they gain maturity as for languages, which is certainly a differentiator when hiring.

At this point the Chairman of the Social Council started a commitment by the firms to reach agreements on practices abroad.

Other issues discussed were the key skills necessary for a successful recruitment primarily language knowledge and technology.

They highlighted the high level of students in the world of technology change, despite the great progress in recent years has been achieved in terms of language, considered essential to further training in English since college, and today is very difficult to access to qualified labor lacking in a second language.

After the meeting, the Chairman of the Social Council and the Vice Chancellor Transfer, Entrepreneurship and Employment priority and showed their firm commitment to the employability of the students of the University of Murcia.

Javier Ruano announced it would move the conclusions of the Committee of Experts to the full Social Council and propose to incorporate into your action plan actions to boost the employability of the students of our University.
