The Mayor visits the new multipurpose hall and the Plaza of the Constitution of the Holy Spirit in Espinardo (24/10/2014)

These projects have been developed under the guidelines of the residents in the area, let revitalize the whole environment.

The Urban Plan benefit some 4,000 residents of the neighborhood and encourage trade and the creation and maintenance of jobs.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, this morning visited the site of the new Constitution Square in the neighborhood of the Holy Spirit and the multi-purpose pavilion, two of the initiatives provided for in the Urban Project to revitalize this environment Espinardo.

Some 4,000 area residents will benefit from the momentum that the Urban Project, in which all actions are carried out, will trade, culture and jobs in the area.

The ceremony was also attended by the Councillor for Social Welfare, Maria del Carmen Pelegrin.

Titled 'Building a place to live', this social project began with the convening of a multidisciplinary team of technicians from the Department of Social Welfare, Housing and Culture, and in which all residents of the district participated.

The result of this close collaboration project and the final environment characteristics emerged.

Consultation Activities included interviews with neighbors, a workshop video and painting, 'The dream place', a workshop of stories, 'Tales from the square' and a musical project, 'The song of the square', between other.

The new square will become a gathering place for neighborhood residents.

The square has area gymnastics, games, swings and slides, a stage and a bicycle parking and a wifi area.

Furthermore, in order to recover and to value the rich cultural heritage of Murcia, Plaza incorporates a valuable sculpture brilliant sculptor José Plans.

Another neighborhood requests has resulted in the construction of the new multi-purpose pavilion that will allow both the development of sports activities in the area such as educational support for schools Salzillo and La Milagrosa.

The pavilion also is suitable for holding cultural events such as dance, the performing arts or music.

The building occupies 1,500 square meters, in which the arena, dressing rooms and auxiliary rooms, spectator stands, multipurpose room, and other facilities are shared.

The Urban Project

The project is an initiative of the City of Murcia designed to revitalize the neighborhood of the Holy Spirit and approved by the Directorate General of Community Funds of the Ministry of Finance under the Urban Initiative.

The total project amounts to EUR 10,745,651 and is funded by the Council and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The goal is to achieve an attractive physical space through the construction of cultural, social and educational quality equipment that will allow people to identify with their community and be a magnet for the rest of the city.

Among the initiatives completed or in progress include:

- Construction of a center for artistic and creative cultural production and nursery businesses.

- Extension of the Social Services Centre North Murcia.

- Construction of a sports hall.

- Construction of nursery.

- Remodeling outdoor stage at the cultural center.

- Adaptation of the new low-income housing to support associations.

- Remodeling Salzillo CP classrooms for art activities.

- Remodeling of gardens with trees and installing adequate lighting and energy saving measures

- Burying of waste collection containers to enhance the attractiveness and safety of the area and environmental protection.
