The Bicycle Municipal Observatory proposes to conduct awareness campaigns and create a suggestion box (23/10/2014)

The Municipal Observatory Bicycle (OMB), an advisory body to the City of Murcia which will promote the use of bicycles as safely possible, held its second meeting this week.

A meeting has served to outline the statutes, to be approved by the plenary of the Corporation the month of November, to set up various working and addressing some proposals.

As OMB working system, provided the following as a basic tool the Bicycle Plan, training by members of working committees, which are the following was agreed:

- Infrastructure Committee

- Safety Committee

- Committee of citizen participation

The meeting also featured new members: UCAM, UMU and College of Political Science and Sociology.

There is noteworthy that the formation of the Centre was attended by the following representatives:

The Councillor for the Environment, Municipal Office of the bike, municipal groups: PSOE, IU-Greens, UPyD;

The DGT-Murcia, The Federation of Neighborhood Associations of the municipality of Murcia, The Association of Members of the Bicycle, Bike Murcia, Bicimur Torreagüera and Sports Association, among others.

Some of the proposals addressed in the Municipal Observatory bike were:

- Start a suggestion box with citizens to leave their opinions and ideas.

- Making maps on accident black spots in the town.

- An on-line tool for citizens to indicate where they want the closed cycle stand is placed or where the forks are installed or external cycle stand.

- Conducting awareness campaigns Murcia 30 Plan or the use of bicycles in the city.

Finally, it was agreed to hold the next meeting on December 11.

The Municipal Observatory of the Bicycle, as already noted in the founding meeting, must have an open, social, participatory, consultative, discussion, proposals and technical character.

The OMB was created to study and analyze the status of the bicycle as a regular shift in the city in areas such as number of users, the network of cycle paths and existing infrastructure, inter-modality, parking, security, the concept public bicycle and encouraging local trade, among others.

The Municipal Observatory Bike will be responsible for advising on the design of the strategy to promote cycling as part of a policy to enhance their participation in the modal split for, together, achieve greater and more sustainable mobility.
