House warns of the need to ensure the safety of cyclists to encourage the use of bicycles in cities (26/09/2014)

For the bike definitely become a regular vehicle for urban travel is essential to the security of its users is ensured.

This assertion has been one of the arguments made by the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, in the III Meeting of Cities for Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility, held in Torrevieja, which has participated this morning.

Camera, in his capacity as president of the Network of Cities for Bicycle (RCxB), has provided the vision of this entity with respect to Rules of the road, especially in the aspects concerning the safety of cyclists.

In his speech, the Mayor has claimed the provision of infrastructure and the establishment of the necessary rules and regulations in order to ensure the greatest possible protection conditions for pedestrians and bicycle users.

"From the public administrations are obliged to find ways to increase safety on public roads for all citizens because this is a basic requirement if we want increasingly moving bicycles and do so in the best conditions", said Chamber.

The future of the bicycle as a regular means of transport in cities is to be determined largely by improving the safety of cyclists and pedestrians on public roads.

In this sense, the president of the RCxB recalled some of the actions recently promoted in this sense, the creation of a national biciregistro, generating 30 areas of traffic calming, among others.

"It is proven that the more bikers to ride, greater safety, than the need to implement policies that encourage bicycle use is clear," he concluded.

The Network of Cities for Bicycle, Murcia which he presides, represents more than 100 cities and transport authorities in Spanish sensitized to the need to promote the use of bicycles and improve services, infrastructure and policies that concern, with the aim to improve mobility and the environment.

The intervention of Miguel Angel House has taken place in the working group convened under the title "The citizen as traffic generator", which also involved representatives of users of motorcycles and specialists in other aspects of traffic and collisions with pedestrians and helmet.
