Researchers at the University of Murcia designing molecules with potential applications in medicine (23/09/2014)

A team of researchers from the group of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, University of Murcia, headed by Professor Mateo Alajarín works in creating interlocking structures with potential applications in areas as diverse as materials and medical areas molecules.

Throughout recent history, chemists have succeeded in designing these types of molecules with different seasons, with moving parts that activate its operation in response to different stimuli.

The stationing of these moving parts in one of these "parks" is able to express, at will, properties previously coded chemicals in the molecular structure.

This study designed compounds capable of controlling the movement by engaging with other much smaller molecules.

This system works in a similar way in biological systems, although the structure created by scientists is less complex.

The head of this line of research professor, José Berná explains that the work is "to control the molecular motion for various purposes, including developing macroscopic responses that have potential application in other areas."

In medicine, this approach would have different applications, and one of them would be making systems controlled administration of drugs whose effectiveness in the desired start time.

For example, when the medication is on the body that is to be treated.

The results have been published in the prestigious journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition Chemistry.
