"Ebola is a challenge for science" (17/09/2014)

The Pavilion of Medicine, Catholic University of Murcia has welcomed this morning's conference chairman of the Department of Science Communication at the University of Medical Sciences of Havana, Alberto J. Dorta Contreras, who has lectured on 'Findings neuroimmunologic infectious disease and autoimmune '.

Dorta, part of the Central Laboratory of Cerebrospinal Fluid, institution of science and technological innovation belonging to the University of Medical Sciences of Havana and working in the area of ​​infectious, autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases, said that at the end the last century there was a decline in the study of infectious diseases considering that were detrimental, "began to study other neurodegenerative phenomena, but Ebola is an example that has not disappeared," nuanced, and added that this disease, "is a challenge for science."

The speaker also referred to AIDS "which is a pandemic that has spread throughout the world, along with many other infectious diseases that primarily affect the extreme age of life (children and seniors)."

It has also shown that many of these diseases are linked to poverty, living conditions and hygiene, "but others will touch anyone."

Regarding neuroimmunology, Dorta has ensured that this is a very new science, and has stated that thanks to nanotechnology is advancing a lot in this area.
