The City deploys nearly one hundred strategic measures aimed at tourist, cultural, economic and employment promotion (25/07/2014)

The Mayor has chaired this morning's opening session of the Social Council of the City, in which those responsible for these actions have exposed areas designed for their departments.

The strategic guidelines aimed at promoting economic development and employment, along with initiatives to boost cultural and tourist environment conducive to development and to ensure an improvement in the socio-economic future of the town have undergone screening and discussion of the Social Council of the City held this morning.

The session, which in its initial stages has received the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, elapsed interventions Nuria Fuentes, Speaker of the Governing Council and President is Vice-Garcia-Clemente, José María Tortosa, Councillor for Employment, Business, Enterprise and European Programmes, Miguel Cascales, Councillor for Tourism, and Rafael Gomez, Councillor for Culture.

About a hundred steps up the area addressed by the City to, in a transversal way, and implementing innovative projects to ensure referential ideal conditions for growth and economic development of the municipality.

These programs include those promoted for economic development and employment, focusing mainly on supporting the creation of jobs, entrepreneurship, business creation, revitalization of commercial fabric, obtaining EU funding, networking and the generation and transfer of knowledge.

These six strategic lines held in the past two years have led to the development of 63 specific actions:

- 11 actions to improve the skills and employability of the unemployed, among which are two workshops, job placement, career counseling for employment, job club or job placement schools.

- 10 performances for economic promotion and development of innovative entrepreneurship, through the launch of services to support business creation and job training activities for entrepreneurs and activities for promotion of entrepreneurship.

- 13 actions for the revitalization of the commercial sector and adapting to change, in order to increase competitiveness and consumer demand channel to local shops.

For this, among other measures, was created Brand MUAC and have held events like the Days of Shopping in Tatters and Silver and Shopping Night, along with performances like Murcia Fashion Week, Animal Sound or Christmas fairs in the Barracks Artillery and Floridablanca.

- 10 performances in managing European projects aimed at obtaining Community funding focused on economic and social development of the municipality.

- 10 performances related to participation in national and transnational networks for the generation of cooperative relations.

- September activities aimed at generating knowledge and foresight on the town to anticipate change processes.

Meanwhile, both as Rafael Gómez Miguel Cascales been exposed to members of the Social Council of the City the actions from their respective areas have been implemented to strengthen the tourism and culture as a strategic economic development of the municipality sector.

In this sense, it is very important progress in job creation and economic recovery act as a catalyst for the City culture and tourism using municipal resources, and promoting action and interaction of other social agents.

The 65 existing cultural facilities located in Murcia between Spanish cities with a higher ratio of city-owned cultural facilities and represent a cultural and social landmark in the town, as is observed with the following parameters:

- The average annual attendees exceeds 35,000 for each of the museums, art galleries and cultural spaces, and 400,000 in the Romea Circus, 35,000 theaters in the case of Bernal, 50,000 for each of the auditoriums and an average of 30,000 for cultural centers.

- As for the activities, are recorded over 2,500 between exhibitions, theatrical performances, concerts, workshops, seminars, screenings, etc..

- Special emphasis is placed on its own productions in the case of museums, supporting companies and performing arts groups, collaboration with professional associations and business associations by providing infrastructure allowing them to conduct activities (conferences, etc..) that result in benefit to the city tourist.

- Projects in Artillery Barracks (Halls 1 and 2), devoted to new artistic initiatives and the promotion of cultural concerns of residents in the Barrio del Carmen, and future action on the Old Jail, as an open cultural project citizen participation, they are called to be a cultural landmark for themselves.

Regarding the celebrations and festivals, it is undeniable the importance of festivals as a dynamic element of the economy by the volume of people that move in both the organization and the people involved.

About 20 events are organized each year, covering almost 12 months, which must include 7 festivals throughout the year are held in the city and they are doing the city of Murcia festival par excellence.

From a strictly tourism perspective, the goal is to turn the city into a benchmark 365 days a year, promoting its values ​​and strengths.

This plan for boosting tourism "Murcia 365" was developed by universities with industry players, and their findings will be presented after the summer.

With it seeks to consolidate as a tourist destination, breaking the trend of seasonality prevailed until not long ago.

To achieve this he has designed a catalog of resources to achieve these objectives: design stays weekend packages of mixed deals, including concert tickets along with dining and hotel proposals, creating a tourist card, free guided tours, etc. .

As for the attractions of cultural, is the creation of a network of visitor centers built by La Luz, San Antonio The Poor, the Wall of Murcia and Monteagudo, the latter opened last year.

And at the same time maintaining and enhancing the chances of Murcia as a congress, which only last year the municipality reported revenues of 28.1 million euros and recorded the highest participation and accounted assistance of 188,884 people, 9.3 % more than in 2012.

After the presentation by the three councilors, those attending the Council have raised some questions for the presenters, among others, have referred to the use of the city's image as a tourist attraction, the promotion of employment of disabled or possibility of extending the discount card that congressmen also comes to festive groups.

It has also proposed the development of an annual calendar of meetings for both committees to the full Board, which includes nearly fifty representatives of economic, social, professional, welfare and neighboring township organizations.

Advisory capacity between functions is to issue reports and studies on local economic development, strategic planning of the city and large urban projects.

It also provides a forum for dialogue and channel of participation of the most representative to the Municipal Corporation, plus advice social agents.
