Summer schools, farewell (18/07/2014)

The Councillor for Social Welfare and Health, María del Carmen Pelegrin, this morning visited one of the 40 summer schools organized by the Municipality of Murcia this summer, ending today with the development of school holidays this summer.

The hearing took place at the Summer School of Barrio del Progreso, in the parish halls of the district, where about 70 children have developed various activities under the supervision of a total of eleven monitors.

Summer schools this year was performed 1 to 18 July, and have been aimed at children of different neighborhoods and districts of the municipality of Murcia, with which it is intervening throughout the year providing continuity in summer season in this process of intervention with those who are in situations of social disadvantage disadvantaged backgrounds, thereby improving the process of socialization and integration.

Summer school has had this year, as the core, developing activities aimed at mainstreaming through values ​​education with the following weekly themes:

- 1st week related to environmental activities

- 2nd week related to health and fitness through alternative sports activities.

- 3rd week in the arts, individual expression and group activities.

All these activities allow children to participate in an extensive program of recreational, sports and educational activities, offering them the opportunity to:

- Get new life experiences

- Make new friends and network with peers

- Learn alternative leisure

The number of summer schools this year amounted to 40, of which 37 are organized by the Department of Social Welfare and Health, these 6 in coordination / collaboration with culture (El Carmen, St. Pius X, The Esparragal, Zarandona, Cobatillas and Sangonera La Seca).

The other three schools have been conducted in collaboration with associations and voluntary groups.

The total number of seats was 1,900, of which 175 seats are groups that offer volunteering associations, the remaining seats were distributed among the children participating in the program Activities with Children, which develops during and lower school course given from Social Services.
