Murcia still working on his goal by implementing electric motorcycle in the urban environment (11/07/2014)

The Electra Project (Electric City Transport), which participates in the city of Murcia GERMAN through their Local Energy Agency, under the Department of Environment, directed Adela Martinez-Cache, continues to progress following his program established by the European Commission.

Aiming at establishing a system of loan Electric motorcycles in urban environments, the Electra project is getting involve different social agents of interest in the area of mobility, both locally, regionally and nationally.

RAAC headquarters in Barcelona hosted the last meeting of the Electra Project.

At this meeting the progress of the project was also presented SmartCEM (Smart Connected Electro Mobility) for a brief analysis of the positive aspects provided electromobility, such as the reduction of air pollution, reduced noise emissions and the favorable impact generating loan systems for electric vehicles stopping on sharing systems of electric motorcycles.

This first national meeting to support the Electra project was to BCNecologia organizer, Agència d'Ecologia Urbana de Barcelona, which participates with GER, the Local Agency Enertgía the City of Murcia, as only two Spanish partners of the project.

This meeting served to strengthen partnerships between local government, public bodies and other stakeholders in the field of electric mobility in Spain.

The project objectives were to address the issues, but with particular emphasis on the challenges that still have to overcome the electrical mobility in society.

The importance of extrapolating the results of the project and the resulting implementation model to other European cities was also stressed.

The idea is to facilitate and simplify the access of citizens to hire electric motorcycles or use of such sharing systems like MOTIT, currently operating in the city center and has the support of the local administration.

The issue of implementation of electromobility in cities in general, and more specifically a system of sharing of electric motorcycles, was another issue to deal with, and that generated a debate that emerged and identified opportunities and weaknesses associated with electric mobility.

Thus, some of the conclusions that were reached were:

- The necessary involvement and public-private participation in the initial post-implementation and expansion of electric vehicles and associated infrastructure.

- The need to ensure charging the user with a wider deployment of the network of facilitating installation in private homes, wider dissemination and communication campaigns to help raise awareness of the benefits of this type of vehicle.

- The need to make vehicles more competitive and profitable to the manufacturers.

- In Mediterranean countries there is some difficulty in giving up ownership of the goods we consume (in this case the means of transport) to replace its sharing (sharing systems).

- The need for careful planning of the service to avoid worsening accident figures too high in the case of the bike.

- Importance of a well maintained fleet of electric vehicles by companies providing services sharing / renting.

- You should fare integration and empowerment of intermodality which allows to combine the use of the bike in integrating strategy that promotes sustainable mobility especially greater use of public transport.

This first meeting of the national support group Electra Project is part of the communication plan of the project and can be defined as an event of importance to the interests of electric mobility in Spain in general and for the smooth running of the Electra Project, particular.
