The University of Murcia will be responsible for coordinating in Europe over the next four years Erasmus Mundus "Southern Cross" program, whose purpose is the development and internationalization of universities in Latin America through the mobility of students, researchers, teachers and administration and services.

The project, managed by the Department for Coordination and Internationalization, directed by Professor Bernardo Cascales, has more than three million euros funding and affects 20 higher education institutions from fourteen countries, nine Latin American countries (Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Panama and Uruguay) and five European countries (Spain, Italy, Portugal, Poland and Latvia).

The program promotes the fight against discrimination and inequality, so that most Latin American universities involved are located in disadvantaged areas.

In the years of the project (until July 2018), is expected to total 194 mobility 142 from Latin America to Europe and 52 in reverse.

To this we must add two Erasmus Mundus programs in Africa and Asia, coordinated by the University of Murcia with an investment of more than five million.
