The Department of Social Welfare maintains its partnership with the New Horizon Association.
Thanks to a grant from City Hall, the partnership will continue with the development of a work plan launched in recent years, led directly to 22 people with intellectual disabilities of various kinds and their families.
This program of activities includes the following actions:
- Family Support.
- Family Respite.
- Volunteer Training.
- Cultural Programme of Leisure and Recreation.
- Promotion of Independent Living.
- Workshops Manipulatives.
- Training Workshops.
- Participation of Traditions and Festivities other point.
- Sports activities and corporal expression.
The ultimate goal of this Work Plan is to achieve full integration of people with intellectual disabilities, promoting their autonomy and personal skills.
This establishes the following specific objectives:
- To promote personal development and a style of independent and healthy lives, actively participating in community life.
- Avoid isolation by leisure time, enhancing the ability to relate to the group.
- Provide equal opportunity and improve the quality of life of these people.
- Contribute to respite.
- Assist people with mental disabilities with fewer economic resources to enable their full and social development.
The listed projects are carried out throughout the whole year and feature the work of a monitor that works as coordinator of activities, and other monitors, Social Integration Technician for activities and respite.
