Ricardo Rubio, new manager Mercamurcia (03/07/2014)

Ricardo Aroca Rubio, 42, joins as Managing Director of Mercamurcia following the retirement of Martin rock.

Bachelor of Economics and Business Administration, MBA in Business Administration and a Masters in Economic and Financial Division by ENAE Business School, Rubio has developed his professional career in the Food sector and more specifically in the livestock sector.

Martín Peña, an agronomist by profession, joined Food Unit months before the opening Slaughterhouse in 1976, which was the first activity initiated in Mercamurcia.

In his hand was subsequently inaugurated Markets Fish (1978) and Fruit and Vegetables (1980).

With these three activities and the incorporation in 1986 of Flower and Plant Market, situated at the hub of Mercamurcia wholesale markets of the Mediterranean, along with Mercabarna and Mercavalencia.

Throughout the years, there have been increases in marketing activities, but has been at the slaughterhouse and in the fruit market where expansion has been increasing from the first to sacrifice 2,200 tons in 1976 to 12,800 2013 and the second from 61,500 tons in 1980 to 80,500 tons in 2013.

In 1988, given the boom flower growing volume in our region and in Mercamurcia had opened the third flower market in the country, Martin Pena got the concerns of flower growers and organized the "Meeting of Ornamental Horticulture "with the aim of bringing new products in production (plant material, machinery, farming techniques, etc..) our farmers.

This fair was held annually until 1994 Mercamurcia facilities.

From 1995 it was renamed EXPOFLOR and alternated between Mercamurcia venues and Lorca.

Expoflor was celebrated until 2008.
