Professors of the University of Murcia produced a book on irrigation in the Southeast (12/06/2014)

"The dynamism of irrigated Pulpí" is the title of the work in which professors of the University of Murcia studying water scarcity in the Spanish southeast and use the element does Irrigation Community this Almería village.

The book consists of two parts, first, geographic, developed by teachers Geographic Analysis at the University of Murcia and José María Gómez Espín Incarnation Jesus Gil and Pedro García Martínez, expert knowledge of irrigation in the study area, and another second biographical character, written by Professor of Spanish Language at the same University Ramón Almela.

In the first effort of the Community Irrigation Pulpí shown to establish and manage, since 1983 a irrigated water supply has increased from 1,500 acres to more than 8,500 do.

Farmers in the irrigation area using the latest techniques known in the use of water resources and practices in cropping systems, predominantly the innovation and modernization in this commercial agriculture in projecting varieties of lettuce, watermelon, cantaloupe, tomato and broccoli, among other crops.

The authors highlight how, in just thirty years have been able to diversify its water sources: rainwater and underground Bajo Almanzora, transferred water Tagus-Segura and Negratín-Almanzora, underground Segura Basin and desalination.

They have also modernized infrastructure to allow pressurized irrigation located at all points of the irrigation area, with a significant number of acres in hydroponic culture (method used for growing plants using mineral solutions instead of agricultural land).

They are a model of irrigation management in the field of Spanish southeast.

A biography of Lorenzo Belmonte, enhanced agricultural businessman agroindustrial innovation in the area and that is the real architect of this irrigation is presented in the second part of the book.

In recognition of this work, Pulpí City Council, at the request of the Community Irrigation has built a fountain in a public square in front of his home.
