A new space Repeating Artillery Barracks as the Carmen district of Culture (12/06/2014)

With the opening of Pavilion 1 Artillery Barracks, the city of Murcia continues the recovery task spaces for the city through actions with little cost.

The Artillery Barracks is consolidated as a cultural and artistic landmark of the city of Murcia with the opening of Hall 1, a space of 400 square meters for the dissemination of contemporary culture.

The new space for public use, strengthen the development of cultural and creative industries in the capital with a collective commitment and local projects, and a commitment to expand the cultural and associative, betting on the Barrio del Carmen as " Neighborhood of Culture "to enable its development as an economic, cultural, tourist and social promoter of the city of Murcia.

Thus, Murcia Consistory meets its original commitment to recover the enclave Artillery Barracks for the citizen and for the creation of cultural, educational and social facilities use.

It is expected that more than 7,000 people annually pass through this new cultural space to enjoy over a hundred of scheduled activities: exhibitions, films, workshops, fairs, conferences, etc ...

The renovated Hall 1 offer the following services: El Cuartel showroom, Room C audiovisual space, living tongue, designed to spread oral projects, classroom training and Jaime I.

The exhibit "The Barracks" (160 m2) was created with the idea of ​​supporting and disseminating contemporary art and pop culture of the XXI century, especially those considered minor arts such as industrial design, fashion, advertising, graphic design, photojournalism and / or documentary, ... One of its main objectives is the promotion of emerging artists of our city as well as the dissemination of the work of residents own Artillery Barracks.

Conference Room C will be a space for the audiovisual display of different filmic arts (video art, documentary, experimental filmmaking), difficult access through commercial channels.

The purpose of the room C is to provide citizens with a cinematic quality alternative.

The space "Tongue", intended for oral narrative and arts.

A space to tell and hear stories: storytelling, monologues, micro-theater ...

Jaime I classroom training space interaction between the citizen and contemporary culture with the idea of ​​creating a space relationship between artists, creative professionals and citizen culture.

Thus, Hall 1 was created with the aim of becoming a space of coexistence between local, national and international art projects.

A purpose that is beginning its opening, in which six local collective projects will be displayed in the exhibition "Re-creative processes" (12 June to 15 July).

A sign intended to bring citizens the process of creating and testing six residences Hall 2, through an exhibition of sketches, objects, tools, pictures ... of the different processes and temporal and mindsets of our creators.

The originality, interaction between processes, artistic quality and social impact thereof makes creative processes of these six objects of great value to our city.

The six groups participating in this inaugural exhibition are: Illustrated Collective, a group of illustrators who work in our city;

+ Forms, Cartagena group artists with sculpture as an element of common expression;

Erections and diving suits, actors and puppetry for adults;

Micro speed healing, artistic and therapeutic project which comes directly from the life experience of the artist, Mario Company, a collective of creators and artists of Los Alcazares with the common goal of democratizing art;

and Hall 2, creative professionals who organize a monthly workshop creative coaching.

Moreover, the international character will reflect sound installation with NO BULLSHIT: Tribute to Karkowsky.

The international seal of Halls 1 and 2 Artillery Barracks was consolidated last October during the celebration in the complex of the International Congress of European cultural centers, Shortcut Europe.

In that event highlighted the European model of multidisciplinary cultural industry (performing arts, visual arts, new technologies, cinema ...) which means the activity to develop in these cultural spaces.

With the opening of this second building the city of Murcia, through the Department of Culture, helps consolidate Artillery Barracks (which houses other institutions) as a cultural landmark in the city that also serves as a social dynamic of the iconic Carmen district.

In this sense, the Pavilion 1 is not only a cultural space, but will be open to the participation and use of other groups and associations located in the Barrio del Carmen, in a way that serves as a meeting point for the citizens of the area .

Moreover, opening a forgotten return to the neighborhood since 1995, when it ceased military facility use image, as is the empowerment of the main facade of the former barracks.

The complex thus gets its main entrance, with a strong historical symbolism for the city.

FLAGSHIP ARCHITECTURE

The architectural ensemble of the Artillery Barracks, built between 1921 and 1926, belongs to the city of Murcia.

Its more than 65,000 square meters of colonial style are intended for the Municipal Library, the Conservatory of Music of Murcia, the Museum and the Aquarium of the University of Murcia, the Centre for Contemporary Art Parraga CENDEAC and classroom Camon.

The resort was the first seat of the paratrooper brigade of the Army in 1954 and housed the regiment of artillery RACA 18. In 1995 he was demilitarized permanently and handed over to the municipal authorities, who from the first moment decided destine to use cultural public.

In 2002, Hall 4 was loaned to the Museum of the University of Murcia, and the wards 3,5 and 6 were remodeled to accommodate inside the Conservatory of Music, a public library and CENDEAC that shares a building with the Párraga Center .
