House defends the role of municipalities in improving the quality of life of citizens (11/06/2014)

Speaking at the Cities Forum, held at Feria de Madrid, in the framework of the International Exhibition of Urban and Environment Tecma.

Miguel Angel House has highlighted the experience of Murcia in the public-private partnership to provide citizens with quality services at reasonable prices.

Action in the European project SmartSpaces has yielded an average savings of 20% in energy consumption of the City during the first months of 2014. Chamber stressed that sustainable water management puts Murcia as an "efficient city."

The improvement of services provided to citizens and, therefore, the most being, has a lot to do with the transformation of cities into "smart" spaces.

This is a possible change if it is known to employ new technologies in all areas of municipal management, from cleaning services to the energy saving and sustainable water management.

On this premise has turned the intervention of the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, in Cities Forum held at Feria de Madrid, in the framework of the International Exhibition of Urban and Environment Tecma.

One of the key aspects of his presentation was the European-SmartSpaces Intelligent Buildings Project, which aims at the introduction of new technologies in energy management in public buildings, for a 20% savings on their consumption.

It involves 26 partners from 8 countries and Murcia it is one of 11 pilot cities involved.

They will be hosted over 550 buildings with nearly 20,000 professional and 6,000,000 visitors annually.

In Murcia, the buildings in which it is conducting this experience to reduce energy consumption are the city of Murcia with its Town Hall and Annex, and the offices of Local Police, Fire, Traffic and Civil Protection.

They are installed counters-analyzers and temperature sensors, so that they can meet the real-time electricity consumption by departments, and major uses such as air conditioning and computers.

As a result, during 2014 has already obtained an average savings of 20% thanks to the training plans for municipal employees launched awareness campaigns and resource optimization.

An efficient city

Moreover, the Mayor has also referred to the management of water held in Murcia, which, in his opinion, puts Murcia as "an efficient city."

In this regard, Camera has emerged as more significant information:

- The pipeline of current drinking water is 2,187 km, or what is the same, the distance separating Murcia Amsterdam, and annually supplies the equivalent of 11,760 Olympic swimming pools.

- Control System allows remotely controlled water monitored at all times.

This analytical control 137 points, of which 80 are analysis "on-line" account.

- To control consumption, Smart Metering, applied to accountants reading technology allows end estimated readings, on-line access to the readings and have visibility into consumption, which results in a better expenditure management by the customer.

- Microsectorización: A water efficiency system based on the division of the distribution network in fragments smaller network that, among other possibilities, allows fast and very accurate for losses that may occur in the network control.

Good urban practices in Murcia

During his participation at IFEMA, the Mayor has also taken the opportunity to mention other Smart City projects where working in Murcia in the field of good urban practices, specifically:

- Management of noise in recreational areas by installing a recorder-controller limiter team that would ensure allowable noise level limits are not exceeded within the premises or adjoining buildings.

- TMurciaBus-Mobile Application that provides information "on line" on the arrival times of the 9 municipal bus lines.

- Car Share Murcia.

It aims to bring together people who travel by car every day to share your vehicle within the Municipality of Murcia.

- Security in villages.

GPS system for recording and isolated dwellings in the municipality to improve police response time location.

- Murcia Tourist Card.

It's the smart card microchip that gives access to the main tourist and cultural attractions of the city of Murcia, while enjoying entertainment and shopping discounts.

- Implementation of a GIS system for public access through a city called "From Tree to Tree" web service where you can view and interact with a municipal database containing 100,000 trees.
