Center enlargement Cañada Hermosa 15 different treatments will apply to waste generated in Murcia (06/06/2014)

The Mayor has inaugurated this morning the 4 new plants in which it has invested 30 million euros and generated 350 jobs.

The facility, built under the award of the cleaning and waste management services Cespa Urban Murcia (Ferrovial Services), consolidates Murcia in a position of leadership in the recovery of your waste.

Up to 15 different treatments from now will waste generated in the town, which puts Murcia at the forefront of European cities in the management of their waste.

Achieve this leadership position has been possible after undertaking an investment of 30 million euros to implement a redevelopment of the Treatment Center Cañada Hermosa, which have been carried out in just 12 months and required the hiring of 350 people between direct and indirect jobs.

The project involved the construction of 4 new facilities that will integrate more than 15 types of treatment for waste generated by Murcia, which in 2014 will exceed 500,000 tonnes.

As a result of this project, will increase by 25% the service personnel attending to a final template 65 workers.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, chaired this morning opened the new facilities incorporated to the treatment center.

The event has been accompanied by the head of the area street cleaning and waste management, Jose Ros, along with other councilors of the Corporation, the Director General of Environment, embodies Molina, and executives of the contractor, Cespa (Ferrovial Services), among others, Santiago Olivares, CEO of Ferrovial Servicios, Vicente Galvan, Director of the Competence Center Environment, Rosa Forcada, Treatment and Industrial Director, and Antonio Igualada, Urban Services Cespa director of Murcia.

The current implementation of the treatment center in 1995 was a milestone in the management of waste, and after this extension, the Mayor said that "Murcia will be further strengthened as a world leader in efficiency and sustainability in the recovery of their waste ", while allowing the City to meet the objectives that arose with the new award Cespa (Ferrovial Services) Urban Cleaning Service and Waste Management in 2011.

These objectives were based on a maximum bet for sustainability and minimal environmental impact, incorporate as many different treatment options for maximum product recovery and in an environment of energy balance has been achieved to achieve self-sufficiency from the center to 100%.

The four new facilities are in operation now are:

1) Plant Selection Pizza and Containers: Destined to treat waste collection containers gray (rest) and yellow (containers), construction-budgeted at 6.2 million euros, double the capacity of the residue remaining -currently treated 251,119 tonnes / year.

Triple the container-managed 6,874 Tm/Año- today, responding to future needs.

2) Treatment Plant Industrial Waste and Bulky waste is generated in shops, offices and industries (when treated as urban) obtained through the special collection service for furniture and fixtures.

It will have capacity to handle 41,000 tonnes / year of industrial waste and 5,000 tons / year bulky.

3) Production of Solid Recovered Fuel.

At present, the Rejects from Treatment Center are destined for the controlled deposit.

With this setup, the rejections of plant selection the rest fraction of MSW and lightweight packaging, and commercial and industrial waste, bulky, with a high calorific value, will become a solid recovered fuel (CSR) to be used as alternative fuel-burning facilities with (cement, power plants and industrial furnaces), contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.

With the capacity to treat 20 t / h, progressively, to 40 t / h in 2031.

4) Sludge Drying Plant.

With it will improve the current process of composting sludge from WWTP (wastewater treatment plant) whose main objective will be to achieve a reduction of sludge moisture 60-80%, obtaining a product with minimum content of water.

The four tunnels allow drying initially treat 20,000 tonnes per year, which also represents a clear commitment to renewable energy (solar and reclaimed engine bio-gas energy).

With an investment of 2.5 million euros.

In the near future will come into service two new plants, whose construction works were well advanced.

This is the Treatment Plant Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), promoted in collaboration with Waste Paris, have 1,500 resilience kgr / time PAEE (small appliance) and 20 refrigerators / time and also have a specific line for the treatment of life vehicles and decontaminated, and Plant Biomethanisation driven with Estrella de Levante, is the first that projects of this type in Spain and will have capacity to treat 10,000 tonnes of organic matter or food products and generate one million cubic meters of biogas per year.
