The solar car UCAM play this weekend in Rotterdam (16/05/2014)

This weekend held in Rotterdam (Netherlands), the Shell Eco-Marathon, a race that puts at stake the ultra low power vehicles that have developed teams of more than two hundred teams and more than 3,000 students from around the world.

The Catholic University of Murcia has moved there to a group of students and teachers that make the UCAM Racing Team to compete with its prototype, the Sun Rider.

The evidence on which the team will participate at the Catholic University will be held on Friday at 15:30, Saturday at 12:30 and Sunday at 09:00 pm at Ahoy Rotterdam, a complex in which it is designed circuit.

The objective of this event is to go as far as possible using the least energy consumption.

The Google Glass in Sun Rider

For the Shell Eco-Marathon, the UCAM Racing Team has raised a number of developments in the car, ranging from the design of a new system of efficient traction off the wheels, to the installation of a sensor network and system devices Android OS to give information about the speed, position or temperature via telemetry and communication.

However, the main novelty of the UCAM Racing Team has raised for the Shell-Eco Marathon is the use, by the pilot, the Google Glass, with which various video recordings will be achieved for subsequently study situations of risk presents the circuit, also adding the ability to communicate with the team during the race.

"Driving a car and produces a very different feeling in the small space you have and the visibility," says Juan Carlos Moya, a student of 4th year of the Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Sport of the UCAM and pilot Sun Rider.

It also highlights the responsibility he feels, because "behind me is the work of all my colleagues."

This is the third consecutive year that the UCAM Racing Team participates in the race car Ultra Low Power Shell Eco-Marathon, a new opportunity to showcase the work of students in engineering degree in Telecommunications Systems, Communication and Journalism UCAM, have been conducted in the project.

In addition, the project has the support of Banco Santander as the main sponsor, plus Eurener Tube Murcia, Technology Centres Metal and Energy and the Environment, and GIMAR.
