A campaign to combat vandalism traffic signals (03/04/2014)

The Department of Traffic and Transportation will begin a campaign to combat graffiti, vandalism and other breaks in the street signs.

The aim is mainly to avoid accidents, plus save on repair costs of these items.

A sign painted fall broken, bent, or may cause confusion and trigger an accident.

The campaign, called 'Teach' is one part focused on school and, secondly, to the general public.

With this action, which will run for a month and will begin after the Spring Festival, is looking to raise awareness among children about the importance of traffic signs in road safety in order to decrease vandalism occurred in indicators signs, mirrors and signs.

In addition the campaign will be completed with striking images of people going in marquees and breaking traffic signals accompanied by the phrase 'A pedrada an accident', 'Kick, an accident' and 'A painted an accident'.

This initiative also aims to prevent accidents, reduce the budget spent on repairing, repainting and renovation of various traffic signs.

The Department, through the concessionaire of this service, Triton, repaired immediately signals suffer vandalism.

In 2013 about 5,000 of these elements were painted or broken which meant a cost of 185,000 euros.

For example, changing a signal and aluminum pole 60x90 cm amounts to about 290 euros, a mirror with your post about 140 euros and a landmark of PVC about 50 euros.

The campaign has had no cost to the City Council and has been done by the concessionaire.

In order to act as quickly as possible and to avoid risk to road safety that may present a signal in poor condition, the Department further requests Murcia to report any incidence of these characteristics by way of regular communication with City Hall.

This campaign complements the Department of Traffic and Transportation and Traffic Department conducted in summer 2012, under the name 'This is not a good sign'
